Love is in the air for us here before Valentines day because our anniversary is 2 weeks just before. It was a day I planned to spend with the family, away from all screens but reality slapped that the day fell on a Thursday, a working day that my partner could not take the day off for.
So we just ate noodles with corn kernel and sesame oil.
When my daughter asked why I wasn’t working that day (I was luckily approved for a day off ), I tried my best to explain that similar to a birthday when people celebrate the day they were born, anniversaries are celebrated like the birthdays of two people in love with each other. I didn’t go through the details that it could be between the married and dating couple as she was more interested in what gifts to get for her father. (what about me?)
Without further ado, here’s your 5-year old curated gift ideas for your partner:
Links to shops are randomly searched from Google, I have no agreed partnership with them
1. Red nail polish

I feel this is something to benefit her as well but she insisted that she thought of this because red is his favorite colour.
2. A pair of Mario Bros. boxer shorts

I already gifted him a pair but little dear haven’t noticed it’s being worn.
It could be because, aside from it championing a “One size fits most” feature it fitted but it’s almost uncomfortable, the pair I bought was just a particularly cheap polyester-fabric made that didn’t offer breathability.
This suggestion is reflux of her growing obsession with the game plus her imagery of her father as her ultimate hero.
This product is the closest I got in terms of local search.
3. Kero Keroppi Backpack
With efforts to make things sound better for me, I tried to expand the question by asking what kind of gift would you get me for our anniversary. This is sweet because she remembered how I told her that once I had this denim pants I really loved when I was around 9 years old and it had a back patch of Kero Kerropi on it. I’m surprised if this was true, it’ll be the second thing I’ll own in my life that has this character on it.

Unfortunately, it is sold out.
My take away from this idea is that I learned today that Keroppi is a guy and has a girlfriend named Keroleen!
4. Toothbrush…. with toothpaste
In order to expand the list further, I tried changing her point of view by asking if she remembers this friend of ours that we saw last year after we watched a movie. And how that guy was dating this lady who took our pictures outside the theater and that if this guy friend of ours is to get a gift for her, what should it be?
I will no longer include a photo of these things.
Funny how kids come up with ideas that are sincere which most of us adult might associate into negative stuff like how being gifted with this hygiene kit meant I need to get my mouth clean to be better smelling.
All good hun, I’ll take this gift in a heart beat.
5. Pokemon Greeting Cards

This idea came out as the first one she wanted to give me even before I explained to her what anniversaries are. As soon as she knew the month coming after January, she knew that Valentines will be coming soon.
She asked her father’s help to draw the Pikachu on the cover while she takes care of shading it yellow and writing her message inside. To date, I still haven’t seen the finished product because she was shy about her handwriting.
I know in my hear it will be the best greeting card to receive – it will be the first one if ever she decides to give it.
Hope you found joy reading this and her ideas sparked similarly giftable things to your loved ones this coming Valentines.
