UPDATED: As we bear witness to how miserably the state approached COVID-19 and slow rebuilding of what remained, the majority of our population were victims of joblessness, hunger and worst of all, death.

As a nation with core values centering with Bayanihan (lending out a helping hand), people that are still able to make ends meet find ways on how they can alleviate people’s morals through small acts of kindness.

This viral social media post of a good samaritan has gathered attention and to date, a total of 21k shares. It is a post of a community pantry aiming to provide a source of pantry staple foods. All are welcome to take whatever it is they need and for those who can to replenish the supplies to keep the cause moving forward.

The post owner also encouraged others to do the same in their respective locations but stressed out that this is not a long term solution but the solidarity of the people. I personally should also add that these kind of actions should never cloud our vision from seeking the real root cause of our nation’s problem.

While this bubble called pandemic where mobility proved to be a heck of a problem is now behind us, heavy flow of traffic has risen as our major enemy. It came to a point that people would prefer to stay (or even seek employment to work remotely from their) homes due to challenges related to travel and commute.  Cost of buying supplies due to inflation rate is a blow to those in the poverty line. Not all have the financial capability to afford costs for basic needs let alone, leisure. Furthermore, the completion of better public transportation remains a distant dream. As a resultl, a lot are waking up to a daily nightmare.

Out of necessiry, Facebook groups have emerged where members could join to receive preloved stuff and even appliances..While each group have been founded to reach different goals, the endeavor were dated back to have started during the pandemic years. The minimal fee to pay would only be the shipping costs. Some are also kind enough to even cover those and I am incredibly grateful to have been part of these 2 groups where we’ve managed to score 2 deals (and donated yearly). Hope you will be able to find what you need (or donate what you no longer need) too!

1. Buhay Zero-Waste Preloved

Source: Facebook

A community that “advocates zero-waste practices and aims to become a platform for ONLINE DUMPSTER-DIVING.”  This group is an affiliate of an even bigger like minded people of 31k plus called Buhay Zero-Waste.

You can find preloved stuff here and even used bubble wraps and packaging. I mentioned these  as I myself have found a pile of them in our own house, thanks to the occasional online orders for our essentials.

Aside from the above, people here are decluttering almost anything under the sun. Clothes, shoes, used jars, microwavable containers etc. If you are looking for a place to dump all these seemingly non-sellable stuff, this may be the perfect group for you.

2. FB Search Keyword: “Really really free”

Various group of individuals intending to share and give an adoptive home to some of their forgotten treasures. Having a smaller community means lesser shipping costs to the receiver. As of 2026, there are active groups in cities like Manila, Marikina and Quezon City.

This page is composed of members from across the country, expanding its reach even to those in rural communities.

The administrators also ensure that all requests are in a single post’s comment thread to give priority to givers’ posts.

A set of rules are also pinned on the top to remind everyone of the rules needed to observe to keep the community safe.

This is the where I saw the biggest give away in terms of size – a piano and a set of baking tools for business!

The list of amazing things that can be shared is endless as long as there are hearts willing to share. If you have other leads of groups with the same cause, feel free to comment so we can include it on this list.
